ACT ! on climate change now

Co-operatives UK (one of Defra’s Social Enterprise Strategic Partners) launched ACT ! – a new campaign to get all members of co-operatives to act on climate change before the Copenhagen Climate Conference in December.

ACT !Addressing the Climate Threat – is a Europe-wide campaign which aims to co-ordinate and promote the activities of co-operatives across Europe to ensure that their voice is heard at Copenhagen.

What you can do now (whether you are a Co-op member or not)

  • Go to the ACT ! websitewww.actonclimate.coop – and sign the co-operatives petition demanding a fair, ambitious and binding agreement at the Copenhagen Climate Conference in December;
  • Sign up to 10:10 at www.actonclimate.coop/pledge.aspx to significantly reduce your own carbon emissions.

“Over 11.3 million people in the UK are members of co-operatives – that’s one in five of the population. If we all sign the petition and pledge to cut our carbon emissions we’ll have a huge impact.” Dame Pauline Green, Chief Executive of Co-operativesUK and Co-President of Cooperatives Europe.

    One of the main things that can be done to reduce our carbon footprint is to have ubiquitous high speed broadband for everyone. It is amazing how many journeys that can be saved by access to the etherworld. Anyone with any sense can see IT.
    Fight the telcos and the copper cabal and help get fibre to everyone. You know IT makes sense. Say NO to BET in rural areas, laying new copper is a scandal. Lay and light fibre, and cut down on carbon emissions because the rural people can do so much more online if they can just get connected.

    Quite an interesting comment regarding broadband. Technology can make a difference provided there is easy and cheap access. Besides innovation in the auto industry. Hope Copenhagen conference will bring major outcomes..!
